The Bergstralh and Hehnly Lab Mitosis Club was super fun and held at University of Rochester yesterday. Our lab learned a bunch about cell-cell adhesions and their remodeling during division from Dan’s group. There was great stories about 3-D stem culture models, Drosophila models, and from our lab zebrafish and human tissue culture cells. We saw some beautiful STED micrographs and prelim laser ablation studies. I can’t wait for the next one! Those that attended from the Hehnly Lab were Julie, Nikhila, Heidi, Lindsay, and Jessica.

Our studied title “ Chromosome misalignment is associated with PLK! activity at cenexin-positive mitotic centrosomes” is now officially published. Check it out here. This project was led by the Hehnly lab’s graduate student Erica Colicino who now is at University of Michigan doing her postdoctoral work with Puck Ohi’s lab. Erin Curtis a postbac scholar in the Hehnly lab and now a graduate student at Duke designed the cover that was selected and made major contributions to the study.
Lindsay, Julie, Erin, Abrar, Nikhila, and Jessica all attended the CNY zebrafish conference this year at Syracuse University. Lindsay did a great job with her seminar that utilized an ontogenetic system with the small GTPase Rab11 and Julie presented on PLK1 in the zebrafish embryo during the poster session.
